Abstrakt
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) in the form of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism is a common complication in hospitalized patients. VTE is still a serious epidemiological problem and is the cause of high mortality. Early diagnosis and knowledge of risk factors determine the optimal and effective pharmacotherapy and enable immediate physiotherapy. The best results are achieved by combining different elements of physiotherapy, including active exercises, breathing exercises, compression therapy and patient’s education. Early mobilization of VTE patients, optimally anticoagulated and hemodynamically stable, is not associated with the recurrence of pulmonary embolism or deep vein thrombosis or with the worsening of symptoms. Individually tailored physical activity reduces symptoms related to these diseases.
