Abstract

Urinary tract infections are the most common bacterial infections in children. Proper diagnosis and treatment of urinary tract infections allows for faster cure of the disease and prevention of complications. This article presents a case report of a 6-year-old girl in whom urinary tract infections were successfully treated with cefixime and furazidine. Cefixime is a third-generation oral cephalosporin with broad-spectrum bactericidal activity and a good safety profile, which is used in the treatment of pyelonephritis, cystitis, and also the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections. Furazidine is a widely used chemotherapeutic agent from the group of furan derivatives with a multi-target effect on the bacterial cell, indicated for the treatment of cystitis and prevention of urinary tract infections. This article discusses data from clinical trials indicating the benefit of these drugs in children with urinary tract infections.
