Abstract

Numerous guidelines from the European Society of Cardiology position β-blockers as fundamentally important in the treatment of patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, cardiac arrhythmias (including atrial fibrillation), chronic coronary syndrome, post-myocardial infarction with left ventricular dysfunction, and hypertension with concomitant indications. Bisoprolol, a long-acting cardioselective β-blocker, combines a predictable negative chronotropic effect, anti-ischemic activity, a favourable pharmacokinetic profile, and the possibility of once-daily dosing. Clinical data support its importance in controlling heart rate, improving prognosis in stable heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, and treating patients at high cardiovascular risk.
