The use of tapentadol in the practice of a neurologist Review article

Abstract
Tapentadol is a strong opioid with a unique mechanism of action. It is an agonist at μ-opioid receptors and inhibits norepinephrine reuptake. The first mechanism of action makes tapentadol useful in the treatment of acute pain of moderate to severe intensity, while the second justifies its use in chronic pain. The drug can be used for nociceptive, neuropathic, and mixed pain. Compared to other opioids, it has a better efficacy and safety profile. It has a low risk of adverse drug interactions. It is a good therapeutic option for both elderly patients with multiple morbidities and young, professionally active individuals.
