Abstract
Rosuvastatin is an 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-coenzyme A reductase inhibitor. It reduces LDL-cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglyceride levels and increases HDL-cholesterol. Rosuvastatin has the most potent LDL cholesterol-lowering effect of all statins, so it is preferred for intensive lipid-lowering therapy. Rosuvastatin is a drug with proven efficacy in primary prevention in patients at high cardiovascular risk, including the treatment of familial hypercholesterolemia. It is recommended for use in pediatric patients due to its good tolerability and safety.
