Niedożywienie u pacjentów z cukrzycą. Rola doustnych preparatów odżywczych w leczeniu żywieniowym Artykuł przeglądowy

Abstrakt
Niedożywienie stanowi istotny i często niedostatecznie rozpoznawany problem u pacjentów z cukrzycą, znacząco wpływający na przebieg choroby, kontrolę glikemii oraz rokowanie. Zaburzenia stanu odżywienia mogą występować niezależnie od masy ciała i dotyczą zarówno pacjentów ambulatoryjnych, jak i hospitalizowanych, szczególnie osób starszych oraz chorych z przewlekłymi powikłaniami cukrzycy i chorobami współistniejącymi. Niedożywienie sprzyja rozwojowi sarkopenii, zwiększa ryzyko hipoglikemii i powikłań infekcyjnych oraz wiąże się z wydłużeniem czasu hospitalizacji i wzrostem śmiertelności. Leczenie żywieniowe stanowi integralny element kompleksowej terapii cukrzycy i powinno być wdrażane wcześnie oraz dostosowane do indywidualnych potrzeb pacjenta. W przypadkach, gdy dieta tradycyjna nie pozwala na pokrycie zapotrzebowania energetyczno-białkowego, istotną rolę odgrywają doustne preparaty odżywcze, należące do żywności specjalnego przeznaczenia medycznego. Odpowiednio dobrane preparaty, uwzględniające specyfikę potrzeb metabolicznych pacjentów z cukrzycą, mogą skutecznie wspierać poprawę stanu odżywienia bez istotnego pogarszania kontroli glikemii i stanowią ważne uzupełnienie postępowania dietetycznego u tych chorych.
