Abstract

Nutraceuticals may play a role in the management of dyslipidemia in selected patient groups including those who cannot or do not want to take statins. Bergamot-derived polyphenolic fraction is one of the most potent lipid-lowering nutraceuticals: at the dose of 500–1500 mg/24 h, it may lower LDL-C level by 15-40%, and short-term studies indicate a favorable safety profile of bergamot.
