Naproxen in the infectious season: antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and potential antiviral effects Review article

Abstract
The range of symptoms in viral infections varies from person to person. The most common symptoms include fever, sweating, fatigue, muscle and joint pain, and sometimes cough, weakness, or shortness of breath. These symptoms are often accompanied by progressive inflammation. Despite advances in pharmacotherapy, treatment for viral infections usually still relies on symptomatic therapy. In such cases, it is worth determining which medication will address all the symptoms reported by the patient and whether it also offers a direct inhibitory effect on viral growth and replication. According to a series of recent research findings, naproxen appears to offer precisely these possibilities. This paper presents the mechanism of naproxen’s comprehensive antipyretic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory effects. It also describes the direct antiviral mechanisms of the drug, as demonstrated by scientific studies. They represent a promising direction for further research.
